Colombian Duo Takes Creative Approach On Misspelling of Their Country's Name

$

Let's talk about Steve Harvey's big mistake the night of the Miss Universe pageant.

Nope, I'm not talking about crowning the wrong contestant which caused some seriously awkward moments on stage and anger on social media.

I'm talking about this mistake:

Twitter/IAmSteveHarvey

Not only did he misspell Philippines, but he also made the all too common mistake of spelling the name of Colombia (the country) with a "u."

Harvey isn't the only one — celebrities like Justin Bieber and Paris Hilton have spelled Colombia wrong.

Even companies like P.F. Chang's, Virgin Mobile and Starbucks have misspelled the country in press releases.

That's why Emilio Pombo and Carlos Pardo launched a campaign and merchandise company called " It's Colombia Not Columbia " with the hopes that they can finally get people to own up to this careless mistake and correct themselves.

"It's an error that's committed everyday," Pombo said to the Miami Herald . "I don't think we'll ever be able to eliminate it completely."

Teepublic

But even some people in Colombia feel Colombians are just being too sensitive.

"Colombia as a country is suffering from low self-esteem and it's paying far too much attention to what other countries say about it," said Alejandro Giraldo, who works in media relations at the Javeriana University in Bogotá.

Overly sensitive or not, the duo is getting a great response. They say they're selling almost $15,000 worth of "It's Colombia Not Columbia" merchandise a month, struggling to keep some products, like baseball caps, on the shelves.

"We never intended for this to be a business, we always wanted this to be a campaign about a concept," said Pardo. "The business has been an accident — but we're happy that it's happening."

Teepublic

So let's clear up some common o/u mistakes:

  • Colombia : Country at the northern tip of South America; people from there are called Colombians.
  • Washington, D.C : The District of Columbia, capital of the United States of America.
  • Columbia University : Private Ivy League school in New York.

Clear? Let's get it right.

And if you are Colombian, wear it proud !

Gina Rodriguez Offers Golden Globes Dress To Fan For Prom

Just when you thought Gina Rodriguez couldn't get any sweeter, she goes and does something super cool like this. Jessica Casanova, a 17-year-old senior from Buffalo, New York, tweeted out that she would love to wear the dress Gina wore to the Golden Globes to her prom. You know, just one of those wishful thinking tweets we all send out every once in a while.

But then — voilà! Gina sees the tweet and, being the down-to-earth girl she is, replies to the teen fan saying she only owns one dress from the Golden Globes, and that's the one from last year .

What happens next is the best thing ever:

Twitter/Gina Rodriguez

This girl will have the dress of her dreams for one of the most memorable nights in high school career and she can also say she got it from the Jane the Virgin star herself. To top it all off, it's the dress she wore on the night she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy — how awesome is that!?

Although the teen was initially talking about the Zac Posen dress Rodriguez wore this year , that gown was a loan so the actress offered her black, strapless Badgley Mischka dress from last year's awards show instead.

Casanova tells The Huffington Post she's already been in touch with Gina and everything is turning out great. "I'm very thankful for Gina!" The teen says she's been a fan of Jane the Virgin since Season 1 and that Rodriguez inspires her and never fails to make her laugh.

Sounds about right. Looks like Gina is really making a difference in people's lives — how's that for a #MovementMonday ?

Gerald Flores loves tacos so much; he's making taco pride look good.

Since January of 2015, Gerald, 32, has been making taco-related shirts and designs on his website, TacoGear.com . We asked the Corpus Christi, Texas native and resident how he came up with this idea, and his answer was delightfully simple:

I freaking LOVE tacos! I was looking for a cool taco t-shirt one day and I couldn't really find any that I liked. So since I am a graphic designer, I decided to make my own.

Tacogear.com

The site features shirts , hats , and a sale section (including the above Netflix shirt), so you can get your Taco fix in a variety of ways.

TacoGear.com

We asked Gerald what his fave taco is, he said, " That is one of the most difficult questions ever. My absolute favorite (if I had to pick one) would be Chorizo, Egg & Bacon." The breakfast taco life is a good one.

Gerald's future plans include growing the online community of Taco Gear fans, and launching some new products and other fun stuff this year. We can't wait to see what he comes up with. Follow tacocreative on Instagram and Facebook to keep in the know.

Gotta love this shirt:

The Grammys are right around the corner, and well know what that means: hours and hours of red carpet coverage.

Don't worry, though — we know the primary (if not only) reason you'll be watching is to catch the contemporary queen of Latin Pop and what she's wearing. So before you flip out over J.Lo's inevitably iconic 2016 Grammys dress, let's see which of her past show-stoppers best channels your personality.

15 Times Celia Cruz Slayed Us With Her Wardrobe

Celia Cruz will be honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in the spring— a well-deserved accolade for the Cuban salsera who could lift the lowest of spirits with her voice.

Though she left us more than a decade ago, Celia lives on through her music. Then, of course, there's her fashion sense. Every time the Queen of Salsa stepped on stage or onto a red carpet, she bedazzled, outshone, and overrode other beings with her style. Below are 15 times the beloved Celia slayed everyone and their mami with her attire:

The Peacock Slayage

We are here for this. For all of this. Celia is the definition of elegance in this airy dress dotted in peacock feathers with delicate, long sleeves. She owned this look.

Facebook

Lady in Red

Look at the Queen of Salsa waving at her haters in Paris. OK, we're not sure who she's waving at but this red hot floor length poncho compliments her very well, and those chains and shades? Diva status.

Facebook

This wig. That's all.

Celia always embraced her curves, which is evident in this gorgeous, glittering form-fitting dress with batwing sleeves. Then, there's her high as the heavens wig complete with bangs. We love that she was as confident in her fashion style as she was on stage.

Associated Press

Red Sequined Beauty

At the 3rd annual Latin Grammy Awards in 2002, Celia posed like the queen that she was for photographers in this red, sequined gown. Flawless.

Associated Press

That time she made us see green, literally.

In this 2001 photo, Celia looks incredibly vibrant in a lime dress with 3/4 sleeves. What brings her slayage to a higher notch is the colorful jewelry she's rocking.

Associated Press

Hello, it's me.

Never had Celia looked so regal than in this gem from 1992. This is the Queen of Salsa arriving at a film screening for The Mambo Kings in all her glory, covered in fur and jewels, rocking a bold red lip and waving to mere mortals.

Associated Press

The time she wore music.

We knew Celia adored music, but on this 2002 night with husband Peter Knight, she wanted to express that love to the world through her attire with elegance. The piano keys add a signature uniqueness that the Queen of Salsa was known for.

Associated Press

Complete Slayage

We CANNOT even. In this photo shoot in Brooklyn, Celia is serving us pants, sexy heels, furs and big rocks on her fingers. And a pose that only a real star can pull off.

Facebook

Colorful Beauty

The late legend always pushed boundaries when it came to her attire — a reflection of her personality and willingness to really be out there. Here she is showing off her figure in a black dress with a sequined hem and colorful accents, including some on her hair. Try rocking this today with the same presence Celia had... exactly.

Facebook

All Lace & Frills

Never did we see Celia in a boring outfit. In this vintage photo, the Queen of Salsa performs in a dress with lace, frills and bows. Even though there's a lot going on in this look and we don't know where to focus our eyes first, Celia looks stunning and owns the look.

Facebook

In all her sequined glory.

Celia is a sight to see in this 1994 photo, shot on stage alongside the late Tito Puente during an all-star concert in New York City. We love how the lights shine on nearly ever blue and white sequin on her gorgeous gown, and her head is bedazzled as well. Gotta love how Puente stared admiringly at Celia as she sung her hear out.

Associated Press

Rocking the rumba dress.

We adore Celia's Bata Cubana (Cuban Rumba) dress. It has plenty of color with the orange polyester satin and there's that extra detail with white nylon eyelet trim. And, of course, it wouldn't be a true Celia outfit without some sort of ruffle action. Interesting tidbit: the Bata Cubana was the Queen of Salsa's preferred performance costume and she later donated it to the Smithsonian .

Facebook

That time she rocked the isla girl look.

Celia is the true definition of an island girl in this photo taken in San Juan, Puerto Rico. There's her caftan dress in a gorgeous teal color, and that flawless church lady hat complete with gold hoops that we're sure every Latina has worn at some point. Werk!

Facebook

Forever Pretty in Pink

Celia took her textures seriously, mi gente. Here she is being escorted like a true queen in a pink gown with feathers and sequins. Yes, darling!

Facebook

A Timeless Queen

This vintage photo truly defines Celia. She's dressed in a jumpsuit with geometric shapes and plenty of glitter, her heels are killer and she's donning rings and larger-than-life jewelry. Her pose is also signature Celia. Her smile, however, is perhaps the greatest part of this outfit. Thank you Celia, for always being you.

Last week, menswear designers showcased their Fall/Winter 2016 collections at New York Men's Fashion Week.

Among them is Mexican designer Ricardo Seco, originally from Torreón, Saltillo, Mexico. Seco showed his 22-piece collection entitled " Time ," featuring images of Speedy Gonzalez, sarape jackets and ponchos. "I think that it is time that the people of New York recognizes my work and it's time to share more about my country," Seco told Latin Post .

His most talked-about design of the collection was a shirt that read: "I'm Mexico, who is Trump?" (featured below). When asked about his Trump design, Ricardo said it was his love for Mexico and his desire to show " that Mexico represents more than what was said about it ."

He told NBC news , "As a Mexican fashion designer I represent Mexico through my work ... and my inspiration is the sarape, a traditional item from the north of Mexico — where I am from."

His journey to the fashion industry wasn't a conventional one: Prior to becoming a menswear designer, he worked in a customs agency in Ciudad Juárez for ten years. At 33, he took a risk by quitting his job and pursuing fashion design in Paris and Milan. The rest is history.

We're looking forward to see what he has in store for his next collection. Check out a few of his designs below.

Edwing D'Angelo Is Proudly Bringing Afro-Colombian Designs To The Runway

While many designers at New York Fashion Week are trying to present their collection as best as they can, one designer has decided to do so with a deeper message behind it.

"I want to bring awareness as to why Latinos should be part of Black History Month," said Afro-Colombian designer Edwing D'Angelo.

Originally from Buenaventura, Colombia, D'Angelo said this initiative is something he's been working on for a while.

Examiner

"The inclusion of Afro-Latinos in the American diaspora [conversation] is very little — politically, socially, economically," D'Angelo tells Fox News Latino .

Now he's taking the conversation that he's had with other Afro-Colombians in Colombia to the States to bring attention and create awareness about the contributions of Afro-Latinos in both Latin America and the United States.

D'Angelo also addressed the unique aesthetic of his Afro-Latino inspired designs, intense colors and bold prints. He gestures to the way he's dressed with a beige jacket paired with a floral button-down shirt instead of a tie.

"We have a different je ne se quoi. We have the best of both worlds. We know what the black world is and we know what the Latin world is."

Below, Edwing with models wearing his Resort 2015 line.

Examiner

"I always try to incorporate history and knowledge into my collections," he said when asked about his latest work debuting at Fashion Week this season.

Dominican ambassador Porfirio Rubirosa is the Afro-Latino inspiration behind his Fall 2016 collection. While Rubirosa was a man known for his playboy reputation, D'Angelo wants to highlight his charity work for Dominicans and Europeans alike.

Ashley Graham is making waves in a big way. The plus-sized model is the first-ever size-16 to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated's coveted "Swimsuit Edition." Two other women — model Hailey Clauson and UFC fighter Ronda Rousey — were also picked to be on the two other covers of the Swimsuit Edition. This is the first time that SI will have three separate editions with three different cover models.

Giphy

She's not just a pretty face and hot bod, either. She's a proud body activist and is always working to promote body diversity and offer support when it comes to loving and embracing your body just the way it is.

That's not to say it's been an easy road to self-acceptance for Ashley. She gave an inspiring TED talk last May in Valencia, Spain about how she overcame her insecurities. "I felt free once I realized I was never going to fit the mold that society wanted me to fit in," she said ." I was never going to be perfect enough for an industry that defines perfection from the outside and that's okay."

Ashley first made history when she appeared in last year's SI Swimsuit Edition. She became the first plus-sized model to be in the magazine at all when she appeared in a print ad for plus-size swimwear brand " Swim Suits For All ." But now she's in the big leagues, baby!

Celebrating 100 Years Of Brazilian Beauty

Let's cruise down memory lane and look at the women of Brazil and how their looks and styles have changed over the past century. This latest video by Cut focuses their popular " 100 Years of Beauty " series on the women of Brazil. It's interlaced with references that deal with economic history. Watch model Cintia Dicker transform through the decades to show us how the trends included everything from bangs to curls to flowery headdresses.

1910s

This look was inspired by Nair de Tefé . She was Brazil's first female cartoonist. The creators thought it was important to start the video based on a women from Brazil who created her own images.

Cut Video

1920s

One of the largest exports in Brazil in the 1920's was coffee, so Cintia was styled after a woman in an ad inviting people to celebrate Brazilian coffee all around the world.

Cut Video

1930s

Two words: Carmen Miranda. She was so famous in Brazil that she soon became a sort of icon for the rest of the world.

Cut Video

1940s

The look wouldn't truly be an homage to Carmen Miranda without her signature headdress. Historically, the headdress made out of fruit celebrates the export culture in Brazil.

Cut Video

1950s

This particular look was modeled after a Dutch beauty queen, Corine Rottschäfer, who won Miss World in 1959. It was a moment in time where the rest of the world got to see the beauty that comes from Brazil.

Cut Video

1960s

Brazilian rock singer and composer Rita Lee is the inspiration for the look celebrating Tropicália . Going to Rio on vacation was "in" and this look encapsulated that very specific vibe.

Cut Video

1970s

The 1970s style continues to be inspired by musician Silvinha Araújo . The creators wanted to drive home how impactful the music from that era and it's aesthetics were.

Cut Video

1980s

A fashion magazine was chosen as the inspiration behind this particular look as a way to mark the point where the Brazilian market for cosmetics and other beauty products was opening up to rest of the world.

Cut Video

1990s

This one is based on Xuxa . Remember her? Cut said they could not do a video like this and not include Xuxa in some way.

Cut Video

2000s

For the last two looks, Cut Video was inspired by Brazilian supermodels, who they feel represents Brazil to the rest of the world. This look is inspired by the model, Cintia Dicker, herself from one of her print ads.

2010s

We started with coffee and fruit and end with beauty itself. !Bela!

Why "El Niño Prodigio" Might Just Be The New Walter Mercado

$

If you haven't yet, it's about time you met " El Niño Prodigio " (The Child Prodigy). Despite the fact that he is definitely not a child, his astrological skills may very well be prodigious. He's best described as a cross between Walter Mercado (he currently works with Despierta America ) and Ms. Cleo (you bet he's got a sketchy 1-800 number).

But El Niño, who's also known as Victor Florencio, may very well be the only astrologer with enough sazón to carry on Walter's torch. Still, there's something decidedly refreshing about his delivery. While I'll always have a place in my heart for astrologers in capes, El Niño Prodigio's casual look and unmistakable Bronx upbringing is devoid of pretense. He's just here to tell it like it is, mija.

He's serving looks, he's serving face, he's serving a higher power.

Dulce Candy Addresses Haters Who Say She’s Not Mexican Enough

$

The media these days feels like it's saturated with judgments on what makes people who they are based on what they look like. We could do with a lot less hate and bullying. That's where beauty vlogger Dulce Tejeda a.k.a. Dulce Candy , who has over 2 million subscribers on YouTube, comes in. She released a video that's not like her others. She doesn't offer any beauty tips or show you any new makeup techniques. Instead, she talks about something that goes way deeper than the surface.

Dulce says she first experienced this sort of "Latina-shame" when she was invited on Univision's Despierta America , which tapes live and airs in Spanish. Although she told producers she wasn't completely fluent in Spanish, she did it anyway.

Brett Mikoll for Flama

Her main concern were her viewers. She thought, "Why are you gonna say 'No' just because of what people might say." The results are what she describes as a total failure after she started in Spanish but quickly switched to English when she forgot the words and ended up finishing out her segment in English.

She admits, "I was a little reserved because I felt like people were gonna say something about the way that I speak Spanish." Let's just say people on social media were not so nice, questioning why she thought herself worthy of representing Latinas when she couldn't even speak the language.

More recently one girl called Dulce a "Latina wannabe" online because she doesn't particularly likes corridos, a type of music which her husband happens to listen to. Really? Is that what we're doing now? I don't like cumbias so I must not be truly Mexican.

Brett Mikoll for Flama

"The last thing I'm gonna do is let you define who I am," she said in her video. Take it from Dulce, ladies — do not let others' expectations of what a Latina should look and sound like affect your self-identity. Dulce Candy's message is easy: Screw the haters who think you're not a real Latina if you don't speak Spanish well.

Brett Mikoll for Flama

"I do feel like a lot of us are being put into a little box and we have to fit a specific mold and basically that defines how Latina you are," she explained. It's time to change that. "Do you! Be happy! Life is too short to be worried about what people think about you."

She ends the video with even more words of wisdom: "Try to pay someone a compliment. Try to be supportive. Try to smile." Preeeeach!

OK, LADIES, NOW LET'S GET IN FORMATION ... to celebrate Jillian Mercado getting cast in Beyoncé's new "Formation" merch line!

Mercado broke the news on her IG account two days ago with a photo of her between two other models, as seen below.

The 26-year-old blogger turned model is signed with IMG Models , the same agency that represents supermodels like Chrissy Teigen and Karlie Kloss . She has appeared in campaigns for Diesel and Nordstrom,

"Working with IMG, my goal is to make it so that I am not the model in the wheelchair, and I'm just the model," Mercado explained . "If I can do big shows like Alexander Wang or Chanel and not be seen as the token girl, that goes a long way toward challenging perceptions."

I Put Cardigans On Cholos So I'd Feel More Comfortable

$

0

I only learned about Cholos like a week ago, so maybe this is old news, but WHOA. Did you know about these guys? I don't know what it is exactly; the tattoos, the liberal use of guns and stuff, buttoning their shirts all the way to their necks — but if I'm being honest, I get a little uncomfortable. So, I put some cardigans on these cholos so I can rest easy.

Makeover #1

Is the guy on the right wearing an undershirt under an undershirt? Wait, that's not a shirt. THAT'S ALL TATTOOS?!? So many tattoos. And sweatpants. How am I supposed to know how muscular their legs are in those baggy pants? They could be crazy fast??? I believe I can fix this up.

Whew...ok, now we're getting there. Now they seem like real cool gents that come up to ask you for directions. Might be meeting friends at a juice bar that used to be a corn silo or something trendy. Maybe they'll start smiling now that they're wearing clothes not stored in gym bags.

Makeover #2

THESE GUYS DON'T EVEN HAVE SHIRTS ON! Where did your shirts go? Did those ghosts on your arms eat your shirts? Do you need a ghostbuster? They're ladies now; you'd like them. But in the meantime...

I mean, guys, they look so nice! This is a legit Old Navy ad. And hey, the guy in the back got an iPad! So creative! I bet he's Instagramming his view from the Getty or something. Live in the moment friend.

Makeover #3

This is a tangent, but do tattoos hurt? I bet they hurt a lot. This guy could tell me, because toe to tip, that's a tattoo boy. But at this point, I'm desensitized to the ink. What's really got me unnerved? Sunglasses. Inside. It's not that bright out. What are you hiding?

This time, I opted for sweater AND a tie because I think the sunglasses were really about impressing his friends. "I'm so slick, I can wear protective UV lenses in an interior environment." But a power tie is way more impressive. This guy can go on a job interview with this get up. I might lose the pants for a nice pair of slacks, but as long as you sit down at a table, the potential employer won't notice.

Makeover #4

At least this guy is outside with his sunglasses. Hey guy, talk to that last guy. He needs to learn about sunglasses! Also, rational fears aside, the really scary part of this image is how his nipples and belly button make his chest look like a villain from a Kirby game, sucking in air really hard.

Ah, hell yeah. This guy's a GQ model, which is the only time I've seen someone mix collared shirts with body art so I'm assuming it's cool now. And instead of that head tilted slightly up looking like he's analyzing his next victim, now it looks like he's thinking about opening a small business with legally sanctioned loans. This is just great.

Makeover #5

PUT THE GUN DOWN SIR YOU HAVE A LOT OF LIFE TO LIVE! YOUR BODY ART MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE A CRATE I'D FIND IN AN ORIENTAL BOUTIQUE, BUT I'M SURE SOMEONE OUT THERE WOULD LOVE IT. YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THIS!

Jesus, that guy was gonna shoot himself. But now, he's just saying "Hey, top of the morning to ya! You wanna cup of coffee? My coffee's wearing a sweater, so you know you can trust it!" I mean, he's still pointing at his dick, which is odd, but I'm not scared of a dick. I've seen those before

Makeover #6

I think this guy's a gang leader. I've watched a lot of Law and Order: SVU and usually the gang guy that talks to the detectives wears a leather jacket, so that makes sense. I mean, he's more clothed than anyone else in this post, but I'm still REALLY nervous so let me fix him up.

Oh man, now he's looking swell. He's gonna teach you about math later, right? That guys a math teacher for sure. A+, he does math. But still, there's something about this that's concerning.

Better.

Bernie supporters can now "feel the Bern" on their feet.

Printing company TPC is offering a product to "help you walk with Bernie all the way to the White House" with their Bernie Sandals. The patriotic chanclas are emblazoned with a graphic of the candidate's signature hair and glasses and come in red or blue. The makers say that the sandals will massage your insole, have an ergonomic footbed, and that they're made with vegan-friendly, latex-free materials.

Kickstarter

As of right now, there's 12 days remaining for the campaign to be funded, and over half of the $10,000 goal has been raised. For $25, backers get a pair of sandals. The highest contribution tier is for $350, where one can get their own custom sandals where TPC's "art/graphic design team will create a personalized caricature of you."

For $65, you can get the following "Campagin Combo," a typo that shouldn't dissuade Bernie fans from the profound allure of a BERNIEPAC (a fanny pack with his image on it). The combo also includes the chanclas and a Make Donald Drumpf Again t-shirt.

KickStarter

Brian Batrowny, one of the fundraiser's organizers, told Flama, "We wanted to donate all proceeds to the campaign, but Kickstarter regulations do not allow funds to be distributed to any political campaign or cause."

Batrowny tells us that if their campaign for Bernie Sandals gets funded, the plan is to set up a website selling the sandals where all the proceeds will go to Sanders' official campaign.

So anyone out there who is #FeelingtheBern and feeling it hard, check out the Kickstarter campaign to become a literal walking endorsement.
